Glaschu - Home town love song

Mary Ann has spent her life surrounded by music, from earliest memories of her family singing in the front room at nights, through a hothouse classical training and a brief diversion running a newsroom, to her world today as musician, composer and broadcaster. Brought up in richly multi-cultural Glasgow with Gaelic in the home, her mother’s family are tradition bearers from the Isle of Skye, while her father hailed from Tiree, a tiny island with a powerful musical and poetic tradition.

Three decades working at the heart of the Scottish music world have yielded many awards including two Scots Trad Music Awards, two Lorient Festival Interceltique awards and a National Gaelic Award, as well as Gold Medals at Gaeldom’s premier festival, the National Mòd. Mary Ann has also won many commissions and residencies including the PRS for Music New Music Biennial and Musician-in-Residence at the Gaelic college in Skye, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.

Her debut solo album, ‘An Dan’, confirmed her place as a composer and songwriter as well as performer, and was released to critical acclaim in July 2017 on ARC Music. .
